Station 34 houses Engine Co. 34, Battalion 8, and Unit 8.
Engine Co. 34 covers the "Parkway Village" area of Memphis and has consistently been one of the busiest companies in Memphis for the last 15-20 years in total runs and total amount of hose laid. Our first in territory is about 1.5 - 2 square miles and is boundered by I-240 on the North, Tchulahoma to the West, Winchester Rd. to the South, and Perkins Rd. to the East.
Our 1st alarm running territory covers much more area. We will run north and south on Getwell from Rhodes Ave to the Mississippi state line and east and west along Knight Arnold Rd. from Fed Ex @ the airport to Emerald Rd. which is two blocks east of Mendenhall. This area consists of all types of occupancies ranging from Fed Ex World Headquarters to small, single story shotgun houses and everything in between.
Engine 34 is normally an ALS company and is manned by an Officer, a Driver, a Firefighter / EMT, and a Paramedic / Firefighter. We are also part of the Special Operations Battalion. All members assigned go through Special Ops training consisting of Hazmat, Confined Space, Trench, Rope, Building Collapse, and extra Vehicle Extrication training. These members are able to be detailed to the other Rescue houses through out the city or work Overtime on SORT pumpers or one of the 3 heavy Rescues. They are also afforded the oppurtunity to serve on USAR team TNTF-1.
Battalion 8 is unique to the City of Memphis in that he has a geographic running territory that corrolates with the other Battalions throughout the city, but his assigned stations are not. Battalion 8 has the additional duty of being the Special Operations BC and therefore has Station 25 in the Colonial Heights area, Station 27 in Frayser, Station 34 in Parkway Village, and Station 36 in Whitehaven.
Unit 8 is an ALS ambulance and is appropriately nicknamed "Bronco-Billy." It is manned by rotating paramedics assigned to Engine 34 and EMT's that rotate through the Battalion. Unit 8's running territory goes to infinity........and beyond. They are one of the busiest Units in the city as well.
Please note that in the "Call Volume" page, the number of Fire Calls represents the total number of runs for the pumper and EMS Runs represents the total number of Unit runs for the month.
We have added a link to a Memphis Fire Dispatchers website where you can listen to live audio. This link scans the main dispatch channel and the first couple of talkgroups. We also have some archived audio clips in the "Files" section in the navigation bar across the top of the page. These recorded files eliminate dead air time so most of them go from the initial dispatch to companies arriving on the scene. We can only display (3) links at a time on the main page which rotate every time you check us out. Check out the "links" page to see a complete list.
Also, please fill out the guest book area and include an address to your page if available. We'd love to check yours out as well.
